What is the 18 Certificate?
18-certificate films can be sold by any UK shop, mail order catalogue or Web site. 18 films do not feature graphic depictions of sexual activity - softcore porn to you and me.

What is the Restricted 18 - R18 - Certificate?
In August 2000 the law was changed to allow films featuring graphic depiction of sexual activity between consenting adults to be sold in the UK - hardcore porn to you and me. These films have an R18 - Restricted 18 - certificate.

What are the restrictions on R18 films?
They have to be bought from a licensed shop and cannot be sold via mail order. Web sites cannot have a license to supply R18 films within the UK, even if the company that owns the site runs a licensed sex shop. If a UK-based Web site sells R18 films for delivery in the UK it is breaking the law.

Why do they have these rules?
The BBFC's primary concern is to protect children, so it does whatever it can to prevent hardcore films being accessible to children. Clearly, it's easier for youngsters to buy films over the Web with dad's credit card, than it is to saunter into a licensed sex shop.

Can I import hardcore sex films from abroad?
Yes you can, with certain limits. Even though UK-based companies aren't allowed to sell R18 films over the Web, foreign companies are allowed to send hardcore films to private individuals in the UK for personal use.

Can any type of film be imported?
No. Customs and Excise will only allow material featuring sexual activity between consenting adults. Films featuring rape, violence, mutilation, sadomasochism, urination, scatology, bestiality or animal cruelty would be liable for forfeiture. Its priority is in tackling paedophilia and material involving children.

Can Customs seize films?
Yes. It Customs has the power to search goods arriving in the UK and often does. 6,000 indecent items were seized in the 2000/2001 financial year. Customs is not interested in films showing sexual acts between consenting adults -- films won't be seized if they don't contained prohibited material listed above.

About Zoning

Q: What does Zoning mean?

A: Every continent uses it's own Region Coding for dvd's. This Regio Coding prevents discs from one region to be played in another region. Region Coding is one of the not-so-great ideas from filmstudios to protect their movies in terms of copyrights and differences in release dates. Region Coding has nothing to do with differences between PAL and NTSC

Q: What Region Coding is used on your dvd's?

A: Well, here comes the fun part. All DVD-players must implement region coding, but not all discs need to be region coded. So, to ensure worldwide playability, all our dvd's are Multi Region (better known as Region Free).

About DVD-players

Q: When I play a disc, I don't get a color picture, but Black & White instead. Help!

A: Check the settings of your DVD-player. Most likely, the default setting for your DVD-player is PAL. This setting can be changed using the "Menu" or "Setup" feature on your player. Refer to the manual that came with your DVD-player to find out how to enter the "Menu" or "Setup" feature.
In most cases, there are three options: PAL, NTSC, and Automatic. Change the setting to Automatic. Your DVD-player will then switch automatically to the format of the disc you've put in.

Q: OK, I changed this setting and I still get no color picture?!

A: This problem is related to the kind of connection you use to hook-up your DVD player with yout TV.
There are 3 possible connections:
1) Composite/RCA/Cinch: a small, mostly yellow colored plug
2) S-Video/Hosiden: a small round plug with four pins inside
3) SCART: a big flat connector with 21 pins.

Only when you use a SCART -cable you will get a color picture when playing NTSC discs on a PAL system.
IMPORTANT: You must use a fully wired SCART-cable, where all 21 pins are connected. This is also called a "Full RGB SCART"-cable.
Contact your loacal dealer for this kind of cable.

About televisions

I went trough all the steps above and I still don't get a color picture!!! Why O why?

Unfortunately, only recent PAL TV's (4 years old or younger) are able to display the NTSC format.
Refer to the User Manual that came with your TV to find out if your TV is capable of displaying the NTSC format.
